Derived from Plato’s Cave allegory
Lyrics
Born into a cave with constant temperature, whatever the season
All you’ve seen your whole life are the shadows of passers by on the wall, cast from the fire to the side
What are they and the sounds they make?
What do I myself look like?
One day you step outside to realize the shadows are merely two dimensions out of three
Singing and dancing, yelling and crying, tools for making a whole other world within the same one
It just took a stepping out
You return to the cave to tell the others but are laughed at, angrily thrown out
Are people too stubborn to rule themselves?
What’s the balance of free choice and sustainability?
If I demanded you grow a garden, would you protest with pitch-fork?
Even within this world where you hear this song, we’re still in a cave with worlds in the sky and underground, nevermind a realm you can experience only in your mind’s eye
So how are you so confident of the entirety of truth if you’ve never been to these places?
Would you be open to suggestion or take your incomplete belief to the grave?
Is ignorance truly bliss or is there something more I would miss if I just stepped out of the cave?
